Government Boosts Puttinu Cares with €50,000 Donation
Silent Steps, Generous Hearts: Puttinu Cares Receives €50,000 Boost
Under the warm Maltese sun, usually, the streets of Msida would be teeming with life on Good Friday. The annual Puttinu Cares walk, a beacon of unity and solidarity, would see thousands of locals and tourists alike, united in their stride towards a common cause. But this year, the streets stood silent, the walk cancelled due to COVID-19. Yet, the spirit of giving remained undeterred.
display of support, the Maltese government has stepped in, donating €50,000 to Puttinu Cares. The charity, known for its tireless work in supporting families with children suffering from cancer, received the cheque at the Ministry for Health, a stone’s throw from the usually bustling Msida Creek.
More Than Just a Walk
The Puttinu Cares walk is more than just a fundraising event. It’s a testament to Malta’s community spirit, a visible display of unity and solidarity. It’s a sight to behold, the streets lined with well-wishers, the air filled with hope and determination. This year, though the walk was cancelled, the spirit lived on, finding expression in the government’s generous donation.
“It’s not just about the money,” says Dr. Marcelle Muscat, founder of Puttinu Cares. “It’s about the message it sends. It tells us that even in these challenging times, we’re not alone. That Malta cares.”
: A Future of Hope
The €50,000 donation will go a long way in supporting Puttinu Cares’ various initiatives. From providing financial assistance to families, to offering emotional support and respite care, every euro makes a difference. And while the walk may have been cancelled this year, plans are already underway for next year’s event, bigger and better than ever.
“We’re already looking forward to next year,” says Dr. Muscat. “To seeing the streets of Msida filled with life again, to feeling that sense of unity and hope. But until then, we’re grateful. Grateful for the government’s support, grateful for Malta’s support. Together, we’ll continue to make a difference.”
