Flames Lick the Night: Car Ablaze on University Ring Road

It was a chilling sight that greeted students and passersby last night. A car, parked innocuously on the University ring road, was suddenly engulfed in a inferno that seemed to dance in the cool November air. The blaze, which broke out around 9 PM, sent plumes of smoke skyward, visible even from the nearby Msida Bastion Gardens.

A Quick Response from the Fire Brigade

The Malta Fire and Rescue Service was quick to respond, with two tenders and a rescue vehicle rushing to the scene. They managed to extinguish the fire within half an hour, preventing it from spreading to nearby vehicles or causing any significant damage to the road infrastructure. No injuries were reported, but the car was left a charred shell.

Investigations Underway

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but initial reports suggest it could be an electrical fault. The car, a silver Toyota Yaris, was completely gutted by the fire. “It’s a miracle it didn’t spread,” said a witness who wished to remain anonymous. “There were so many cars parked nearby.”

The University ring road, a major thoroughfare connecting Msida to Birkirkara and Ta’ Qali, was temporarily closed while the fire was being tackled. Traffic was diverted through nearby streets, causing some congestion but no major delays.

This incident serves as a reminder of the potential dangers of electrical faults in vehicles. The Malta Police Force advises motorists to regularly check their vehicles and to park in well-lit, open areas whenever possible.

As for the University ring road, it’s business as usual today. Students and commuters can breathe a sigh of relief, knowing that the fire is out and the road is safe once more.
