Golden Bay Brawl: One Man Hospitalized, Another Arrested

In the early hours of Sunday morning, the usually serene Golden Bay was anything but peaceful. A brawl that broke out among a group of young men left one individual hospitalized and another behind bars, according to police reports.

What Happened at Golden Bay?

Witnesses reported a heated argument escalating into a full-blown fight around 3 AM near the popular beach’s car park. The altercation involved a group of around ten individuals, with punches thrown and chairs broken. The commotion was so intense that it woke up nearby residents and holidaymakers staying at the nearby hotels.

“I was woken up by the noise,” said a shocked tourist from Germany, who wished to remain anonymous. “I looked out my window and saw a group of men fighting. It was quite scary.”

Injuries and Arrests

One man, a 25-year-old Maltese national, was found unconscious on the scene and was immediately taken to Mater Dei Hospital. He sustained serious injuries, including a broken nose and concussion, and is currently in stable condition. Another man, a 28-year-old also from Malta, was arrested by police and is being held at the Rabat Police Station pending further investigations.

Superintendent Keith Micallef, who is leading the investigation, stated, “We are treating this as a case of grievous bodily harm. We urge anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward and help us piece together what happened.”

Golden Bay: A Summer Hotspot

Golden Bay, located in the northwest of Malta, is one of the island’s most popular beaches, particularly during the summer months. Its long stretch of sand, clear blue waters, and nearby restaurants and bars make it a magnet for both locals and tourists. However, incidents like this are rare, and the area is generally known for its laid-back atmosphere.

Local Councillor for the area, Mario Fava, expressed his concern about the incident. “Golden Bay is a place for relaxation and enjoyment, not violence. We will be working with the police to ensure that such incidents do not happen again.”

If you have any information about the incident, please contact the Rabat Police Station on 2122 4001.
