Michael Jackson Fever Hits Hollywood: Maltese Fans Join Global Celebration

Malta’s Michael Jackson enthusiasts didn’t let the 6,000-mile distance dampen their spirits. Dressed in their best MJ-inspired outfits, they joined thousands of fans from around the world, packing Hollywood Boulevard for the premiere of the King of Pop’s biopic, ‘Michael Jackson’s Journey from Motown to Off the Wall’.

Malta’s Jackson Five

Among the Maltese contingent were five die-hard fans, who flew out to Los Angeles just for the event. Led by 35-year-old Mario Vella from Birkirkara, the group spent weeks planning their outfits, ensuring they paid the ultimate tribute to their idol. “We’ve been practicing the moonwalk since we heard about the premiere,” Vella laughed, adjusting his glittering glove.

They weren’t the only ones. Fans from as far as Japan and Brazil descended on Hollywood, turning the iconic street into a sea of sequins, fedora hats, and single gloves. The atmosphere was electric, with fans singing Jackson’s hits and reenacting his famous dance moves.

An Icon’s Journey Retold

The biopic, directed by Spike Lee, chronicles Jackson’s early years with The Jackson 5, his rise to solo stardom, and the making of his critically acclaimed album, ‘Off the Wall’. It’s a journey that resonated with the Maltese fans, who’ve followed Jackson’s career since his Motown days.

“We’ve seen him grow from a young boy to the King of Pop,” said 32-year-old Nicole Attard from Msida. “This film is a celebration of that journey.”

Malta’s Love Affair with MJ

Malta’s love affair with Michael Jackson is no secret. From the countless tribute acts performing at local bars to the annual Michael Jackson Night at the Hilton, the island has always been home to a thriving MJ fanbase. It’s a love that transcends generations, with parents introducing their children to Jackson’s music and dance moves.

Back home, the Maltese Jackson Five are already planning their next pilgrimage. “Next time, we’re bringing more friends,” promised Vella. “Michael Jackson’s legacy is about bringing people together, and that’s exactly what we’re going to do.”

As the sun set on Hollywood Boulevard, the Maltese fans joined the global MJ family in celebrating the life and music of an icon. It was a night that proved, no matter the distance, Michael Jackson’s magic still brings the world together.
