Malta Sets New National Flag-Raising Record

Malta’s Heart Beats with 964 Flags: A New National Record

Imagine Republic Street, Malta’s bustling thoroughfare, transformed into a sea of red and white. That’s exactly what happened last Sunday as 964 flags were raised simultaneously, setting a new national record. The sight was a spectacle that left both locals and tourists awestruck.

The Record-Breaking Event

The event, organized by the Nationalist Party, aimed to celebrate Malta’s resilience and unity. Participants gathered at various locations across Malta, including Valletta’s City Gate, Mdina’s Main Gate, and even in Gozo. At precisely 12 noon, they raised their flags in unison, a powerful display of patriotism that echoed through the islands.

To put this into perspective, the previous record stood at 500 flags, set in 2017. This year’s event more than doubled that number, a testament to the growing spirit of national pride.

The Symbolism Behind the Flags

Each flag raised held more than just red and white fabric. It represented a story, a voice, a commitment to Malta. For some, it was a symbol of hope for a better future. For others, it was a tribute to Malta’s rich history and cultural heritage. Whatever the reason, each flag contributed to the collective roar of national pride.

Among the participants was 75-year-old Maria from Birkirkara. She told us, “I’ve seen Malta change over the years, but today, seeing all these flags, I feel a renewed sense of pride and unity.”

The organizers have already started planning next year’s event, aiming to break their own record. They hope to involve more schools and communities, making it a truly national effort. Meanwhile, the Malta Guinness World Records team is currently verifying the record.

As for the flags, they won’t be forgotten. Many participants plan to keep their flags as mementos, a reminder of the day Malta’s heart beat with 964 flags.
