Malta’s Retro Reunion: A Kids’ Party for Adults
Malta’s Latest Nightlife Sensation: ‘A Kids’ Party for Adults’
Imagine this: it’s 10 pm on a Saturday night in Paceville, the heart of Malta’s nightlife. Instead of the usual bass-heavy beats and neon lights, you hear the opening notes of the Macarena. You’re not in a club, but a transformed former school hall. Welcome to ‘Retro Reunion’, Malta’s newest and most unique night out.
From School Days to Dance Floors
Tucked away in a side street off St. George’s Road, the old St. Martin’s School hall has been given a new lease of life. Gone are the desks and blackboards, replaced by a dance floor, a stage, and a bar serving retro-inspired cocktails. The brainchild of local entrepreneur and ’80s kid, Mark Zammit, Retro Reunion is a labour of love that’s got Malta talking.
“I wanted to create a night out that was fun, nostalgic, and different,” Mark explains. “Something that would appeal to everyone, from those who grew up in the ’80s and ’90s to those who just love a good party.”
More Than Just a Night Out
Retro Reunion is more than just a nightclub. It’s a trip down memory lane, with themed nights dedicated to different decades. From the ’80s night, where you can bust out your best Michael Jackson moves, to the ’90s night, where the Spice Girls and Backstreet Boys take centre stage, each night is a celebration of a different era.
But it’s not just about the music. The attention to detail is impressive. The decor changes with each theme, the cocktails are named after iconic songs and movies, and there are even photo booths with props from each decade. It’s like stepping into a time machine, and it’s no wonder that tickets sell out weeks in advance.
More Than Just a Party
But Retro Reunion isn’t just about the fun. It’s also about community. Mark has been working with local charities to host fundraising events, and he’s even started hosting daytime events for seniors who want to reminisce and dance the day away.
“Retro Reunion is about more than just a good time,” Mark says. “It’s about bringing people together, creating memories, and giving back to the community.”
And it seems that Malta is ready for this unique take on a night out. “I’ve never seen anything like it,” says regular attendee and local resident, Lisa Camilleri. “It’s like a kids’ party for adults, and it’s brilliant.”
