New Apostolic Nuncio Mgr Wojciech Załuski Arrives in Malta

As the sun dipped below the historic city of Valletta’s Grandmaster’s Palace, a new chapter in Malta’s rich religious history began to unfold. The island nation welcomed its new Apostolic Nuncio, Mgr Wojciech Załuski, as he touched down at Malta International Airport on Tuesday evening.

Born in Poland, the 55-year-old diplomat brings a wealth of experience to his new role. He arrives at a time when Malta, with its unique blend of Catholic heritage and progressive society, is navigating the complexities of the 21st century.

Mgr Załuski’s journey to Malta is one that spans continents and cultures. After serving in the Vatican’s diplomatic corps in various capacities, including stints in Nigeria and the United States, he now finds himself in the Mediterranean, ready to represent the Holy See in this tiny, yet significant island nation.

“I am deeply honoured to have been appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Malta,” Mgr Załuski said in a statement. “I look forward to serving the Catholic Church here and working closely with the local clergy and faithful.”

Malta’s Catholic heritage is as much a part of its fabric as the limestone that makes up its ancient cities. From the medieval streets of Mdina to the Baroque grandeur of St. John’s Co-Cathedral in Valletta, the influence of the Church is evident everywhere.
