Beatles Museum: London’s Final Gig Site Gets a Fab New Lease of Life
Abbey Road’s Final Note: Beatles Museum Set to Open in London
Imagine walking down the same street where the Fab Four took their final bow. That’s exactly what’s in store for Beatles fans as the world’s first Beatles museum is set to open in London, right on the site of their last ever gig.
From Abbey Road to the End of the Road
The iconic Abbey Road Studios, where the Beatles recorded most of their hits, is just a stone’s throw away from the new museum. The site, a former Apple Corps building at 3 Savile Row, was where the band played their rooftop concert in January 1969, marking their final public performance together.
Now, after decades of anticipation, the site is being transformed into a immersive Beatles experience. The museum, set to open in 2024, will house a treasure trove of Beatles memorabilia, including instruments, handwritten lyrics, and personal belongings.
Malta’s Beatlemania: A Local Connection
Malta’s love affair with the Beatles is no secret. From the Beatles-inspired street art in Valletta to the annual Beatles Night at the Hilton, our islands have embraced the Fab Four’s legacy. So, it’s no surprise that local Beatles fans are buzzing with excitement about the new museum.
Malta-based Beatles enthusiast, Tony Cassar, has been collecting Beatles memorabilia for over 50 years. “I’ve been waiting for a place like this to open since the day they closed the Apple Boutique,” he says, referring to the Beatles’ short-lived London fashion store. “I can’t wait to visit and relive the magic.”
For those who can’t wait for the museum’s opening, there’s always the Abbey Road Studios’ virtual tour. Or, you could always take a stroll down our very own ‘Abbey Road’ – Triq il-Kbira in Żebbuġ, where a similar zebra crossing has become a popular selfie spot for Beatles fans.
So, mark your calendars, Malta. In a few years’ time, we’ll be able to walk in the footsteps of the Fab Four, right where it all ended. And who knows, maybe we’ll even catch a glimpse of John, Paul, George, and Ringo in our dreams that night.
