Worker Falls Three Stories in Santa Venera
Worker Plummets Three Stories in Santa Venera; Hospitalized
Emergency services rushed to a construction site in Santa Venera yesterday afternoon following a harrowing three-storey fall. The worker, a 35-year-old man, is currently hospitalized with serious injuries.
Scene of the Accident
The incident occurred at around 2 PM on Triq il-Kbira, near the Santa Venera parish church. Witnesses reported seeing the man tumble from the scaffolding of a partially-built apartment block, landing heavily on the concrete below. “It happened so fast,” said one eyewitness, “One moment he was up there, the next he was on the ground, not moving.”
Rescue and Hospitalization
Paramedics from the Maltese Civil Protection Department arrived within minutes, stabilizing the worker before transporting him to Mater Dei Hospital. His condition is described as serious but stable. The Accident Investigation Unit has launched an investigation into the incident.
Safety Concerns and Local Reactions
This is not the first time Santa Venera residents have expressed concerns about safety at the construction site. “We’ve been worried about this happening,” said a local resident who wished to remain anonymous. “There’s always been a lack of proper safety measures, and the workers seem overworked and under-rested.” The construction company, however, maintains that all safety protocols were followed.
Santa Venera Mayor, Norman Saliba, has called for a meeting with the construction company to discuss safety measures. “We cannot have such incidents happening in our community,” he stated. “The safety of our residents and workers is our top priority.”
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers faced by construction workers daily. It also of stringent safety measures and regular inspections at construction sites.
We wish the injured worker a speedy recovery and hope that this incident serves as a catalyst for improved safety standards in the construction industry.
