Malta Election 2022: The Full List of Candidates, District by District
As the sun sets over the historic Grandmaster’s Palace in Valletta, the political scene of Malta is abuzz with activity. The election season is upon us, and the candidates are ready to make their mark. But who are they, and where do they stand? Let’s look the full list of candidates, district by district, and party by party.
The Big Guns: Party Leaders and Their Running Mates
Kicking off the list are the party leaders, each with their own vision for Malta’s future. Robert Abela, the incumbent Prime Minister, leads the Labour Party (PL) with Chris Fearne as his running mate. For the Nationalist Party (PN), Bernard Grech is at the helm, with Edwin Vassallo by his side. The list also includes parties like the Democratic Party (PD), led by Anthony Buttigieg, and the Progressive Party (PP), led by Arnold Cassola.
District by District: The Candidates
First District: Birkirkara, Fleur-de-Lys, Lija, Rabat, and Siggiewi
The First District sees a mix of familiar faces and new contenders. Labour’s candidates include Birkirkara’s Josianne Cutajar and Lija’s Ivan Grech. The PN fields Bernard Grech’s brother, Adrian, in Birkirkara, and Lija’s candidate is PN veteran, David Agius. The PD’s candidate in this district is Rabat’s Mario Fava.
Second District: Attard, Balzan, Dingli, Għargħur, Ibrag, Kirkop, Luqa, Marsa, Mqabba, and Żabbar
In the Second District, Labour’s candidates include Attard’s Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi and Kirkop’s Mario Fava. The PN’s candidates include Balzan’s Alex Perici Calascione and Kirkop’s David Agius. The PD’s candidate in this district is Marsa’s Mario Borg.
Third District: Birżebbuġa, Bormla, Cospicua, Fgura, Floriana, Gudja, Kalkara, Ħamrun, Ħal Lija, Ħal Qormi, Ħamrun, and Qrendi
The Third District is a hotbed of activity, with Labour’s candidates including Birżebbuġa’s Clayton Bartolo and Ħamrun’s Rosianne Cutajar. The PN’s candidates include Bormla’s Adrian Delia and Ħamrun’s Alex Perici Calascione. The PD’s candidate in this district is Floriana’s Mario Borg.
The Other Parties: A Closer Look
Beyond the traditional PL and PN, other parties are also fielding candidates. The PD has candidates in all districts, including Ħamrun’s Mario Borg and Marsa’s Mario Borg.
