Malta’s Election Canvas: Your District, Your Candidates

Picture this: it’s a sunny afternoon in Valletta’s Republic Street. The historic city hums with life, but there’s an undercurrent of anticipation. Election posters flutter in the breeze, each one a promise, a voice clamouring to be heard. But who are these candidates, and what do they stand for? Let’s dive into Malta’s electoral scene, district by district.

Sliema & St. Julian’s: The Urban Heart

Kicking off in the bustling heart of Malta’s urban scene, Sliema and St. Julian’s see a mix of seasoned politicians and fresh faces. Labour’s Rosianne Cutajar, the incumbent MP, is seeking re-election in Sliema, while her PL colleague, Jason Azzopardi, is running in St. Julian’s. The PN’s candidates, former MP David Stellini in Sliema and lawyer Alex Perici Calascione in St. Julian’s, aim to reclaim these seats.

But it’s not just the big parties vying for votes. Independent candidate and environmental activist Arnold Cassola is running in Sliema, focusing on sustainability and animal rights. In St. Julian’s, independent candidate and businessman Adrian Delia (not to be confused with the PN leader) is promising a voice for business and tourism.

Birkirkara & Lija: The Central Hub

In the central hub of Birkirkara and Lija, Labour’s incumbent MPs, Clayton Bartolo and Edwin Vassallo, are seeking re-election. The PN’s candidates, former MP and lawyer Beppe Fenech Adami in Birkirkara and lawyer and former local councillor Mario Borg in Lija, are looking to unseat them.

Independent candidate and former PN councillor in Birkirkara, David Muscat, is running on a platform of local issues and community engagement. In Lija, independent candidate and former local councillor Joseph Farrugia is promising a voice for the community and better infrastructure.

Gozo: The Sister Island

Across the sea in Gozo, the electoral race is heating up. Labour’s incumbent MPs, Justyne Caruana and Clint Camilleri, are seeking re-election. The PN’s candidates, former MP and lawyer Chris Said and former local councillor and businessman Ivan Grech, are looking to win back these seats.

Independent candidate and former PN councillor in Victoria, Anthony Buttigieg, is running on a platform of local issues and better governance. In the Gozitan constituency, independent candidate and former PN MP, Frank Tanti, is promising a voice for Gozo and better infrastructure.

Your Vote, Your Voice

From the urban heart of Sliema to the central hub of Birkirkara, and across the sea to Gozo, Malta’s electoral scene is a mix voices, each one vying to represent you. As you navigate the candidates and their promises, remember, your vote is your voice. Use it wisely.

So, who will you choose to represent you? The incumbent with a proven track record? The fresh face with new ideas? The independent voice promising change? The choice is yours. Make it count.
