100 Synthetic Drug Sachets Seized in Qormi

In the heart of Malta’s rural south, a seemingly ordinary parking lot in Qormi became the scene of an extraordinary drug bust last Tuesday. Police officers, on routine patrol, intercepted a man emerging from his vehicle, 100 sachets of synthetic drugs tucked discreetly in his pockets.

Qormi, known for its traditional bakeries and the annual ‘Il-Karnival ta’ Qormi’, is not typically associated with large-scale drug busts. However, the small town has seen an increase in synthetic drug seizures in recent years. In 2020, police found 500 grams of synthetic cannabis in a raid on a local residence. This latest seizure, involving 100 sachets of an unidentified substance, suggests that the problem persists.

According to sources close to the investigation, the seized drugs are believed to be synthetic cannabinoids, a potent and dangerous class of drugs often referred to as ‘Spice’ or ‘K2’.
