Conrad Borg Manché: Labour’s Workers’ Woes in Spotlight at PN’s First Event

As the sun set over the historic streets of Valletta, a crowd gathered at the PN’s headquarters, a stone’s throw from the Grandmaster’s Palace. The air was thick with anticipation, not just for the upcoming Labour Party conference, but for the man who had just taken the stage – Conrad Borg Manché, the Nationalist Party’s (PN) newly appointed spokesperson on workers’ rights.

Labour’s Promise vs Reality

Borg Manché didn’t mince his words. “Labour promised a better deal for workers,” he began, his voice echoing in the packed room. “But five years on, we’re seeing a different picture.” He ticked off a list of concerns – stagnant wages, job insecurity, and a lack of affordable housing. “The Labour government has let down the workers,” he declared, to a round of applause.

He pointed to statistics from the National Statistics Office, showing that while the economy has grown, wages have barely budged. “The pie is bigger, but the slices are the same,” he quipped, drawing laughter from the audience. “It’s time we demand a fairer distribution.”

PN’s Proposals: A New Deal for Workers

Borg Manché then outlined the PN’s proposals. “We’re calling for a living wage, not just a minimum one,” he said. “We want to see more job security, with an end to precarious work. And we’re proposing a rent control policy to tackle the housing crisis.”

He also touched on the PN’s plans for education and training. “We want to see more investment in vocational training,” he said. “We need to equip our young people with the skills they need to thrive in the 21st century economy.”

Labour’s Response: ” PN’s Policies are Out of Touch “

Labour was quick to respond. “The PN’s policies are out of touch with reality,” said a Labour spokesperson. “We’ve delivered real increases in the minimum wage, and we’re committed to creating more jobs and opportunities.”

The spokesperson also dismissed the PN’s rent control proposals. “Rent control is a thing of the past,” they said. “It’s not the solution to Malta’s housing crisis. We’re investing in affordable housing, and we’re seeing results.”

But Borg Manché remained unfazed. “We’re not about empty promises,” he told the crowd. “We’re about delivering real change for Malta’s workers.”
