Biker Down: Motorcyclist Hospitalised After Gozo Crash
Emergency services rushed to the scene of a collision involving a motorcyclist and a car on the outskirts of Victoria, Gozo, late yesterday afternoon. The biker, a 35-year-old man from Xewkija, was rushed to Gozo General Hospital with serious injuries.
Witnesses reported the crash, which occurred at the junction of Triq l-Imqaddes and Triq San Gorg, around 5:30 PM. The motorcyclist, riding a Yamaha MT-07, was thrown from his bike after colliding with a silver Ford Fiesta. The car’s driver, a 45-year-old woman from Żebbuġ, was unharmed.
Traffic Chaos and Delays
The crash caused significant traffic chaos, with the main road leading into Victoria gridlocked for over an hour. Police closed the road while they investigated the incident, diverting traffic through side streets. Motorists were advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.
Inspector Joseph Vella from the Gozo Police told Hot Malta, “We urge motorists and bikers alike to exercise caution, especially at busy junctions like this one. We’ve seen an increase in road accidents this year, and we’re appealing to everyone to drive responsibly.”
Hospital Update and Support
As of press time, the motorcyclist remains in stable but serious condition at Gozo General Hospital. His family has asked for privacy during this difficult time. Local biker groups have rallied around the injured man, with many pledging to visit him in hospital and offering support to his family.
“We’re a tight-knit community,” said Mario Portelli, a local biker and friend of the injured man. “When one of us goes down, we all feel it. We’ll be there for him and his family every step of the way.”
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers faced by motorcyclists on Malta’s roads. According to the Malta Police Force, there were 297 motorcycle accidents in Malta and Gozo in 2020, resulting in 10 fatalities.
Hot Malta will continue to follow this story and provide updates as more information becomes available.
