Motorcyclist Injured in Gozo Collision: What We Know So Far
Emergency services rushed to the scene of a collision involving a motorcycle and a car on Gozo’s Victoria Road yesterday afternoon, leaving the motorcyclist with serious injuries.
Scene of the Accident
The incident occurred near the Triq il-Kbira, also known as Victoria Road, around 3 pm. Witnesses reported seeing the motorcycle, a red Yamaha YZF-R6, skidding to a halt after colliding with a silver Ford Fiesta. The motorcyclist, a 28-year-old man from Xewkija, was thrown off his bike and landed heavily on the tarmac.
Emergency Response
Paramedics from the Gozo General Hospital arrived swiftly, stabilizing the injured man before transferring him to Mater Dei Hospital in Malta via air ambulance. His condition is described as stable but serious. The driver of the car, a 45-year-old woman from Rabat, was unharmed.
Traffic Disruption and Investigation
The collision caused significant traffic disruption, with Victoria Road partially blocked for over two hours. Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward. They can be contacted on 21320404.
In the meantime, local residents and motorcyclists have expressed their concern. “We see too many accidents on our roads,” said Joe, a resident of Xlendi. “Something needs to be done to make our roads safer.”
This incident comes just weeks after the Malta Road Safety Working Group launched a campaign targeting motorcycle safety. The campaign, titled “Ride Safe, Arrive Alive,” aims to educate motorcyclists about safe riding practices and protective gear.
As the investigation into this collision continues, one thing is clear: the safety of all road users is a shared responsibility. Let’s all do our part to keep our roads safe.
