PN’s Alex Borg: Politics Built on Positivity and Unity
Alex Borg: PN’s Positive Vision for Malta
Imagine, if you will, the bustling Republic Street in Valletta, the capital’s heart, on a sunny afternoon. The scent of fresh pastizzi wafts through the air, tourists snap photos of the Grandmaster’s Palace, and locals go about their day. Now, picture Alex Borg, the Nationalist Party’s (PN) General Secretary, walking down this very street, not with a placard or a megaphone, but with a vision – a vision of politics built on positivity and unity.
PN’s Pivot to Positivity
Alex Borg, in an exclusive interview with Hot Malta, has outlined the PN’s new political strategy, one that prioritises positivity and unity over negativity and division. “We’ve seen enough of the politics of mudslinging and negativity,” Borg says, his voice echoing in the PN’s headquarters in Pietà. “Malta deserves better. We want to focus on what unites us, not what divides us.”
This shift is a departure from the traditional Maltese political scene, where parties often focus on criticising their opponents rather than promoting their own policies. The PN, under Borg’s leadership, is aiming to change that narrative. “We want to be a party that offers solutions, not just criticism,” Borg explains.
Unity in Diversity
Borg believes that Malta’s diversity, from its languages to its cultures, is a strength that should be celebrated, not a weakness to be exploited. “We’re a small island with a big heart,” he says, “We have so much to be proud of, so much to unite us. Let’s focus on that.”
This unity, Borg argues, should extend beyond party lines. “We need to work together, as a nation, to tackle the challenges we face. Whether it’s the environment, the economy, or social issues, we’re all in this together.” He points to the successful COVID-19 response as an example of what can be achieved when political parties put aside differences and work together.
Positivity in Action
But talk is cheap, as they say. So, what does this positivity look like in action? Borg points to the PN’s recent initiatives, such as their ‘Malta Clean Up’ campaign, where party members and volunteers joined forces to clean up public spaces across the island. “We’re not just talking about unity and positivity,” Borg says, “We’re showing it, through our actions.”
the PN has been actively engaging with the public, hosting events and discussions in various localities, from the Three Cities to Gozo. Borg believes that this grassroots approach is key to understanding and addressing the concerns of ordinary Maltese people.
However, Borg is quick to acknowledge that this shift won’t be easy. “Change never is,” he says, “But we owe it to Malta and to future generations to try. We can’t keep doing the same things and expect different results.”
