Animal Rehoming Centre Coming to Marsaxlokk
Paws for Celebration: Animal Rehoming Centre Set for Marsaxlokk
Imagine a day when every dog and cat in Malta has a loving home. That’s the dream of local animal welfare advocates, and it’s one step closer to reality with the announcement of a new animal rehoming centre in Marsaxlokk.
From Neglect to New Beginnings
Tucked away in the heart of Marsaxlokk, the new centre will be a beacon of hope for animals in need. The site, currently a neglected plot of land, will undergo a transformation thanks to a collaboration between local councils and animal welfare organisations.
“We’ve seen firsthand the neglect and abuse that many animals in Malta face,” says Dr. Maria Galea, a local vet and advocate for the project. “This centre will give them a fighting chance, a place where they can heal, socialise, and find their forever homes.”
More Than Just a Shelter
The centre, set to open its doors in late 2023, will be more than just a shelter. It will include a veterinary clinic, a behavioural training centre, and a public education space. “We want to change the narrative around animal welfare in Malta,” says Dr. Galea. “This centre will be a place where people can learn, engage, and ultimately, make a difference.”
The centre will also serve as a hub for volunteers, providing training and support to those who want to make a difference. “We can’t do this alone,” says Dr. Galea. “We need the community’s support, their time, and their love.”
: A Future Where Every Animal Has a Home
The road to completion won’t be easy. Fundraising, construction, and licensing are all challenges that lie ahead. But the vision is clear, and the passion is unwavering. “We’re not just building a centre,” says Dr. Galea. “We’re building a future where every animal in Malta has a chance at a happy, healthy life.”
So, what can you do? You can donate, volunteer, or simply spread the word. Together, we can make that future a reality.
