Marsa’s Ducks Need New Homes
Marsa’s Quacky Dilemma: Council Urges Duck Rehoming After Tragic Loss
In the heart of Marsa, where the Mediterranean Sea laps against the shore, a peculiar problem has arisen. The local council is appealing to the public for help, not with a pothole or a noise complaint, but with a matter of feathered friends. Several ducks have perished, and the council is desperate to find them a new home.
Ducks in Distress
Marsa, a bustling town known for its vibrant fishing industry and historic shipyards, has always been home to a lively population of ducks. They’ve been a beloved sight, waddling along Triq San Pietru, quacking in the parks, and swimming in the Marsaxlokk Bay. However, recent events have left the council and locals concerned.
Over the past few months, several ducks have met unfortunate ends. Some have fallen victim to predators, while others have succumbed to illness. The council, worried about the dwindling population, has decided to take action. They’ve reached out to local animal welfare organizations and the public, appealing for help in rehoming the remaining ducks.
Why Rehome?
The council’s decision to rehome the ducks might seem unusual, but it’s driven by a genuine desire to protect them. Marsa, while beautiful, isn’t the most natural habitat for ducks. The busy streets, the noise, and the lack of suitable nesting grounds make it challenging for them to thrive.
“We want what’s best for these ducks,” says Joe Borg, a council representative. “We believe that a quieter, more natural environment would give them a better chance at a healthy, happy life.”
Where to Next?
The council is working with local animal welfare organizations to find suitable homes for the ducks. They’re looking for places with plenty of water, a peaceful environment, and a commitment to the ducks’ well-being. They’re also encouraging the public to suggest potential locations.
“We’re open to all suggestions,” says Borg. “If you know of a place that could provide a safe, happy home for these ducks, please get in touch.”
For those interested in providing a home, the council has set up a hotline and an email address for inquiries. They’re also hosting an information session at the Marsa Community Centre this Saturday, where potential caretakers can learn more about the ducks’ needs and the rehoming process.
As for the ducks, they’re currently being cared for at a temporary sanctuary in Marsaxlokk. They’re receiving medical checks, nutritious food, and plenty of love, all in preparation for their new homes.
So, if you’ve got a pond, a lake, or even a large, secure garden, and you’re willing to give these ducks a chance at a better life, the council wants to hear from you. Let’s help Marsa’s feathered friends find their happily ever after.
