Special Voting Arrangements for Hospital Patients & Elderly Home Residents
Voting Made Easy: Hospital Patients & Elderly Home Residents Get Special Arrangements
Picture this: It’s election day, and you’re tucked away in Mater Dei Hospital or a residential home in St. Paul’s Bay. You’re eager to cast your vote, but getting to a polling station seems like a tall order. Well, worry not, fellow Maltese! The Electoral Commission has just announced special voting arrangements tailored just for you.
Voting at Your Doorstep
The Electoral Commission has rolled out a mobile voting unit initiative, ensuring that patients in hospitals and residents in elderly homes won’t miss out on their democratic duty. These mobile units will be dispatched to various locations across Malta and Gozo, bringing the polling station right to your doorstep.
Here’s a sneak peek into the schedule:
- Mater Dei Hospital: Voting will take place on the 7th and 8th of June, with specific timings for each ward.
- Elderly Residential Homes: Voting will occur between the 6th and 9th of June, with mobile units visiting each home once.
Who’s Eligible & How to Arrange
If you’re a patient or a resident, you’re automatically eligible for this service. But remember, you must be registered to vote at your current address. If you’re not sure, give the Electoral Commission a call on 2590 2000.
For those who prefer to vote at a regular polling station but face mobility challenges, the Electoral Commission has also arranged for accessible voting facilities. You can find more information on their website or by contacting them directly.
A Reminder of Our Democratic Responsibility
These special arrangements are a testament to our democratic spirit, ensuring that every voice is heard, no matter where you are. So, mark your calendars, and let’s make our votes count. After all, every vote truly matters!
“Voting is a fundamental right, and we’re committed to making it accessible to everyone,” says Joe Gerada, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission. “These arrangements ensure that no one is left behind.”
