Malta to Host Junior Eurovision 2026

Malta’s Got the Mic: Junior Eurovision Heads Our Way in 2026

Imagine this: the Mediterranean sun dipping below the horizon, the Mediterranean Conference Centre (MCC) in Valletta buzzing with energy, and young voices from across Europe echoing through its historic halls. This isn’t a dream, but a reality set to unfold in 2026 as Malta hosts the Junior Eurovision Song Contest.

From Junior to Senior: A Familiar Stage

Malta’s no stranger to the Eurovision stage. We’ve hosted the senior event twice before, in 1992 and 2002, and even won it in 2005 with Chiara’s ‘Angel’. Now, it’s time for our little ones to shine. The Junior Eurovision Song Contest, first held in 2003, is a platform for kids aged 9 to 14 to showcase their talent and represent their countries.

Malta’s last Junior Eurovision appearance was in 2016 with Christina Magrin’s ‘Parachute’. Now, we’re back in the game, and this time, we’re not just participating; we’re hosting. The contest will take place at the MCC, a venue that’s seen its fair share of musical history, from opera to rock concerts.

What Does This Mean for Malta?

Hosting Junior Eurovision brings more than just a week of rehearsals and a live show. It’s an opportunity to showcase Malta’s hospitality, culture, and tourism. Expect a influx of young performers, their families, and fans from across Europe. They’ll be exploring our historic streets, trying out our local cuisine, and soaking up our Mediterranean vibes.

But it’s not just about tourism. The contest also offers a chance for local talent to shine. The Junior Eurovision team will need a crew of dedicated volunteers to help make the event a success. That means opportunities for Malta’s young people to gain experience in event management, production, and more.

: What’s Next?

The contest is still a few years away, but the preparations are already underway. The Public Broadcasting Services (PBS) is working hard to ensure that Malta puts on a show to remember. Expect more details to emerge in the coming months, from the theme of the contest to the artists who’ll be representing their countries.

In the meantime, Malta’s got a lot to do. From sprucing up our venues to rolling out the red carpet for our international guests, we’ve got a big task ahead. But we’re ready. After all, we’re no strangers to the spotlight.

As Malta’s Minister for Tourism and Consumer Protection, Clayton Bartolo, put it, “This is a fantastic opportunity for Malta to showcase its unique culture and hospitality to a wide European audience.” We couldn’t agree more.

So, Malta, get ready to shine. The world’s watching, and our kids are ready to take the stage.
