Naxxar Construction Site Fined Seven Times in Seven Months
Naxxar’s Construction Nightmare: Seven Fines in Seven Months
Imagine this: you’re a construction company, you’ve got a site in Naxxar, and you’re inspected 110 times in just seven months. Now, imagine receiving seven fines in that same period. This isn’t a hypothetical scenario, but the reality faced by a local construction agency in our tiny island nation.
From Inspections to Fines: A Timeline
Between January and July this year, the Building Regulation Office (BRO) carried out a staggering 110 inspections on a single construction site in Naxxar. The site, located on Triq l-Imqabba, has been a hive of activity, but not always for the right reasons. Out of these inspections, seven resulted in fines totalling €1,500.
Each fine, ranging from €100 to €300, was issued for various offences. These include non-compliance with approved plans, failure to maintain proper records, and even exceeding working hours. The BRO, in a statement, noted that these fines were a result of “repeated non-compliance with building regulations”.
Neighbours’ Plight: Noise, Dust, and Disruption
While the construction company grapples with the BRO’s scrutiny, residents of Naxxar have been dealing with their own set of challenges. Complaints have poured in about excessive noise, dust, and working hours that stretch far beyond the permitted limits.
Maria, a long-time resident of Triq l-Imqabba, shared her experience with Hot Malta. “It’s been a nightmare,” she said. “The noise starts as early as 6 am and goes on until late in the evening. The dust is everywhere, and it’s like living in a constant state of chaos.”
BRO’s Stance: Strict Enforcement, No Tolerance
The BRO has made it clear that it will not tolerate any violations of building regulations. In a statement, they noted, “The Building Regulation Office is committed to ensuring that all construction sites operate within the bounds of the law. We will continue to carry out regular inspections and take necessary action against any non-compliance.”
This stance is a reflection of the government’s commitment to maintaining high standards in the construction industry. It also sends a strong message to other construction companies: adhere to the rules, or face the consequences.
: A Call for Responsible Construction
, it’s crucial that all stakeholders in the construction industry – from companies to residents – work together to ensure that projects are carried out responsibly and with minimal disruption to the community.
For the company in question, this means adhering strictly to building regulations and being more considerate of the local community. For residents, it means being patient and understanding, while also not hesitating to report any violations they witness.
After all, Malta is a small island, and we all have a role to play in ensuring that our construction industry grows in a sustainable and responsible manner.
