PL’s €12,000 Car Grant Promise: A Game-Changer for Big Families?

Big Boost for Big Families: PL’s €12,000 Car Grant Promise

Imagine this: you’re a parent of four or more kids, juggling school runs, grocery shopping, and work. Now, picture having an extra €12,000 to spend on a new car. That’s the reality PL is promising for Malta’s large families. But what does this mean for you, and is it all smooth driving from here?

What’s the Deal?

The Labour Party (PL) has pledged to introduce car grants of up to €12,000 for families with three or more children. This is part of their election manifesto, aiming to make life a little easier for large families. The grant will be available for the purchase of new or second-hand cars, with the amount depending on the number of kids:

    • €6,000 for families with three children
    • €9,000 for families with four children
    • €12,000 for families with five or more children

But What’s the Catch?

While this sounds like a dream come true for many families, there are a few conditions. The car must be registered in Malta, and the family must have an income below €60,000. Also, the grant is only available for cars with emissions below 120g/km. This means electric or hybrid cars could be a viable option, with the grant potentially covering a significant portion of the cost.

What Does This Mean for Malta?

This pledge could have a significant impact on Malta’s car market. According to the Malta Vehicle Registry, there are over 370,000 vehicles registered in Malta, with around 10% being electric or hybrid. This grant could encourage more people to switch to greener vehicles, helping Malta meet its climate goals. Plus, it could provide a boost to local car dealerships, with more families looking to upgrade their vehicles.

But it’s not just about the cars. This pledge also highlights the PL’s focus on supporting families. With the cost of living on the rise, any extra financial help is welcome. As PL leader Robert Abela puts it, “We want to ensure that every child in Malta has the best possible start in life, and that means supporting their families too.”

So, what do you think? Is this a breakthrough for Malta’s large families? Will you be heading down to your local dealership if this pledge becomes a reality? Let us know in the comments. And remember, this is just one of many promises PL has made in their election manifesto. if they follow through on this one.
