Three New Priests Bring Hope to Valletta’s Church
Under the soaring arches of St. John’s Co-Cathedral, a sense of renewal filled the air as three new priests took their vows in Valletta. The ordination, a beacon of hope in these challenging times, marked a significant moment for the Maltese Church and its faithful.
Ordination Amidst Uncertainty
The COVID-19 pandemic has cast a long shadow over many aspects of life, including religious ceremonies. Yet, on a sunny Saturday in June, the historic church in Valletta’s Republic Street was filled with a sense of optimism. The three ordinands, Rev. Dr. Matthew Attard, Rev. Dr. David Muscat, and Rev. Dr. Mario Vella, were ready to embark on their new journey.
The ordination, presided over by Archbishop Charles J. Scicluna, was a testament to the Church’s resilience and commitment to its flock. “Today, we celebrate hope,” the Archbishop said, “These three men are a message of hope for our Church and our community.”
Local Heroes Answering the Call
Rev. Dr. Matthew Attard, a native of Birkirkara, is no stranger to the local community. A former teacher at St. Aloysius College, his ordination was a proud moment for his family and the college community. “I’ve always felt a strong connection to my roots,” Rev. Attard said, “I look forward to serving the people of Malta, especially those in my hometown.”
Rev. Dr. David Muscat, from Zebbug, and Rev. Dr. Mario Vella, from Żurrieq, shared similar sentiments. Their ordination was a source of joy and pride for their respective communities, highlighting the local aspect of this significant event.
: A New Chapter
The ordination of these three priests signals a new chapter for the Maltese Church. It’s a reminder that despite the challenges, the Church continues to grow and adapt, guided by its mission to serve and inspire. As Rev. Dr. Mario Vella put it, “We are here to bring hope, to be a beacon of light in these challenging times.”
As the three new priests begin their ministry, the Church in Malta looks to the future with renewed hope. Their ordination serves as a reminder that even in the face of uncertainty, there are always reasons to hope and to celebrate.
