Rain Forces PN to Cancel Event, Labour Takes Cover
Rain Check: Political Parties Weather Stormy Sunday
Yesterday was meant to be a day of political rallies in Malta, but Mother Nature had other plans. The heavy rain that swept across the islands forced the Nationalist Party (PN) to cancel their event, while the Labour Party (PL) took cover, quite literally. Here’s how the political scene unfolded under the stormy skies.
PN’s Rainy Day Cancellation
The PN had planned a grand event at the Santa Marija Basilica in Mosta, with party leader Bernard Grech set to address the crowd. However, as the rain began to pour, the party decided to call off the event, citing safety concerns. Grech took to social media to announce the cancellation, saying, “The weather conditions are not suitable for an event of this nature.” The party has not yet announced a rescheduled date.
This is not the first time the PN has had to cancel or postpone an event due to weather. In 2019, a storm forced the party to postpone their general council meeting. It seems that the Maltese weather is as unpredictable as the political scene itself.
Labour Takes Cover
Meanwhile, the Labour Party had planned a event in Żejtun, with Prime Minister Robert Abela scheduled to speak. However, as the rain began to pour, the party decided to move the event indoors, to the Żejtun Local Council’s hall. The event went ahead as planned, with Abela addressing a smaller crowd than initially expected.
Abela used the opportunity to criticize the PN’s cancellation, saying, “While we are here, working with the people, the PN has cancelled their event. This is not the way to lead a party or a country.” The PL has not announced any changes to their upcoming events, despite the weather warnings.
Weathering the Political Storm
The weather may have disrupted the political plans for the day, but it’s not the first time and certainly won’t be the last. Both parties have had to adapt to unexpected weather conditions in the past, and they will continue to do so in the future. After all, as every Maltese knows, if you don’t like the weather, just wait five minutes.
As for the upcoming political events, both parties have assured their supporters that they will continue to go ahead as planned, rain or shine. So, Malta, keep an eye on the weather forecast and your political calendar. You never know what the day will bring!
