Teen’s Face Slashed in Paceville Brawl: Witness Questioned
In the early hours of Sunday morning, the usually bustling streets of Paceville fell silent for a moment as the sound of shattered glass and screams echoed through the air. A teenager, barely 19, lay on the ground, his face sliced open, blood pouring from a deep gash. This was no ordinary weekend scuffle; this was a brawl that left a young life marked forever.
The Incident at The Point
It all went down at The Point, a popular Paceville hotspot. The club, nestled on the corner of St. George’s Road and Triq il-Kbira, was packed with the usual weekend crowd. According to eyewitnesses, a minor argument escalated quickly, spilling out onto the street and turning into a full-blown brawl. In the melee, a young man, identified only as ‘Matthew’, was left with a deep slash across his face, his nose almost completely severed.
Matthew, a resident of Msida, was rushed to Mater Dei Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery. His family, too shocked to speak, released a statement thanking the public for their support and appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
The Witness
Police have since questioned a witness, a local resident who lives above a nearby shop. The witness, who wishes to remain anonymous, told Hot Malta, “I heard the commotion and looked out my window. I saw the whole thing. I’ve given my statement to the police, but I can’t say any more.” The police, however, have confirmed that a witness has been questioned and that they are treating the incident as grievous bodily harm.
This isn’t the first time Paceville has made headlines for all the wrong reasons. The area, known for its vibrant nightlife, has long struggled with a reputation for violence. But locals and business owners alike are quick to point out that incidents like this are rare, and that Paceville is generally a safe place.
“We’re working closely with the police to ensure the safety of our patrons,” said a spokesperson for The Point. “We’ve increased security and we’re reviewing our procedures to prevent anything like this happening again.”
The Investigation
The police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward. They are particularly interested in speaking to anyone who was in or around The Point on Saturday night, or who may have seen the incident or the aftermath.
Superintendent Keith Buhagiar, leading the investigation, told Hot Malta, “We’re treating this as a serious incident. We’re following several leads and we’re confident that we’ll bring those responsible to justice.”
In the meantime, Matthew remains in hospital, his family by his side. His mother, fighting back tears, told Hot Malta, “He’s a good boy. He doesn’t deserve this. We just want justice.”
As the sun rises over Paceville, the streets are once again filled with the sounds of laughter and music. But the echoes of Saturday night’s violence linger, a stark reminder that even in the most vibrant of places, danger can lurk just beneath the surface.
