Borg’s Call to Arms: PN Leader Rallies Supporters in Mosta

MOSTA, Malta – The air was thick with anticipation as Nationalist Party (PN) leader Bernard Grech took to the stage at Mosta’s Freedom Square last night. The crowd, a sea of red and white, had gathered under the watchful gaze of the Rotunda, Malta’s third-largest dome, to hear their leader’s rallying cry. “My word is a contract,” Grech declared, setting the tone for an evening that would see the PN leader outline his party’s vision for Malta.

Grech: A Man on a Mission

Grech, a 42-year-old lawyer from Qrendi, has been at the helm of the PN since October 2020. His rise to leadership was meteoric, following the resignation of former PN leader Adrian Delia. Grech’s message last night was clear: he intends to lead the PN back to power, following their defeat in the 2017 general election and the 2019 European Parliament elections.

“We are here tonight to send a message,” Grech told the cheering crowd. “A message to the government that we will not stand idly by while they squander our country’s future. A message to the people of Malta that the PN is ready to lead again.”

PN’s Vision for Malta

Grech’s speech touched on a range of issues, from the economy to migration, but it was his plans for Malta’s future that drew the loudest applause. He promised to create a “fairer, more prosperous Malta” where everyone has the opportunity to succeed. He also pledged to tackle corruption head-on, a nod to the ongoing investigations into allegations of corruption within the Labour Party.

“We will not allow Malta to become a banana republic,” Grech said to cheers from the crowd. “We will restore integrity to our institutions and ensure that the rule of law is upheld.”

Grech also addressed the issue of migration, promising a “humane but firm” approach. He criticized the government’s handling of the migrant situation, arguing that their policies have led to a “humanitarian crisis” in Malta.

Mosta: A Barometer of PN Support

Mosta, with its rich history and strong PN roots, is often seen as a barometer of the party’s support. The PN won the Mosta constituency in the last general election, and Grech will be hoping to hold onto that support as he looks towards the next election, due in 2023.

Speaking to Hot Malta after the rally, PN supporter and Mosta resident, Joseph Camilleri, said, “Bernard’s message tonight was clear and strong. He’s the leader we need to take Malta forward. I’m proud to support him and the PN.”

However, not everyone was convinced. Labour supporter and Mosta resident, Maria Attard, told Hot Malta, “I respect Bernard’s passion, but I think the Labour Party has more to offer Malta. We’ll see what happens in 2023.”
