Yet, if you look closer, the city’s transformation is already underway. The grand vision outlined in Malta Vision 2050 is no longer just a futuristic dream, but a tangible reality taking shape in our streets and neighborhoods.

From Concept to Construction: Projects Taking Flight

Malta Vision 2050, launched in 2019, is a comprehensive plan to guide the country’s development over the next three decades. It’s a roadmap that envisions a sustainable, smart, and inclusive Malta. And it’s not just gathering dust on a shelf; projects are already breaking ground.

In the heart of Msida, the SmartCity project is a testament to this. This €650 million venture is transforming a former industrial site into a tech hub, complete with residential areas, offices, and public spaces. The first phase, which includes a 20,000 square meter office building, is set to be completed by 2023.

Meanwhile, in the Three Cities, the Cottonera Regeneration Project is revitalizing the historic area. The €150 million scheme involves restoring and converting old buildings into residential units, creating new public spaces, and improving infrastructure. The first residents have already moved into their new homes, marking a significant milestone in this ambitious project.

Green Spaces and Sustainable Living: A Breath of Fresh Air

Malta Vision 2050 isn’t just about new buildings; it’s also about creating a greener, more sustainable Malta. The plan aims to increase green spaces by 10% by 2050, and we’re already seeing progress.

Take the Ta’ Qali National Park, for instance. This 290-hectare green lung is being transformed into a world-class recreational area. The master plan includes new walking and cycling paths, picnic areas, and even a lake. The first phase of the project is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
