In the early hours of Tuesday morning, a routine roadblock in Qawra turned into a significant drugs bust when police found a substantial amount of illegal substances in a suspect’s car. The bust, which took place on Triq il-Kappara, has through the usually quiet residential area, leaving locals stunned and authorities vowing to maintain their zero-tolerance approach.

From Routine Stop to Major Seizure

According to a statement from the Malta Police Force, the arrest was made following a stop-and-search operation carried out by the Drug Squad and the Southern Regional Tactical Unit. The suspect, a 35-year-old man from Msida, was driving a silver Ford Focus when he was stopped at around 2:30 AM. Little did he know that this routine check would lead to his arrest and the seizure of a significant quantity of drugs.

Upon searching the vehicle, police found 1.5 kilograms of cannabis, 100 grams of cocaine, and 50 grams of ecstasy, along with drug paraphernalia and a sum of money believed to be the proceeds of drug trafficking. The suspect was immediately arrested and taken into custody for questioning.

News of the arrest has sparked concern and outrage among Qawra residents.
