FACT Founder Jesmond Pace Retires: A New Era for Malta’s Tech Scene
FACT’s Founder Jesmond Pace Retires: A Chapter Closes in Malta’s Tech Scene
In the heart of Malta’s Silicon Hub, at the corner of Triq San Giljan and Triq ir-Rebha, the FACT offices have been a constant in the local tech scene for over two decades. Today, that era comes to a close as founder Jesmond Pace announces his retirement.
From Humble Beginnings to Tech Pioneer
Jesmond Pace started FACT, an acronym for ‘Fast Application Company’, in 1998 from his home in Msida. The company was one of the first in Malta to specialise in software development and consultancy. Pace’s vision was to create a local tech industry, and FACT played a pivotal role in putting Malta on the global tech map.
“I remember when we were just a handful of people working out of my garage,” Pace recalls with a smile. “We were pioneers, and it wasn’t easy. But we believed in Malta’s potential, and that kept us going.”
Growing with Malta’s Tech Industry
As Malta’s tech industry grew, so did FACT. The company moved to its current location in St. Julian’s in 2005, a testament to its expansion and the industry’s growth. FACT’s client list reads like a who’s who of global tech, from Microsoft to Google, and local success stories like Betsson and Kindred.
“FACT has been more than just a company for me,” Pace says. “It’s been a journey of seeing Malta grow, of watching young talent flourish, and of being part of something bigger than myself.”
: FACT’s Next Chapter
With Pace’s retirement, the reins of FACT pass to his son, Matthew Pace, who has been with the company since 2010. Matthew, who holds a Master’s degree in Software Engineering from the University of Malta, is ready to lead FACT into its next phase.
“My father laid a strong foundation,” Matthew says. “I’m excited about the future. We’re looking at expanding our services, exploring new technologies, and continuing to invest in Malta’s tech talent.”
The local tech community has reacted with a mix of nostalgia and optimism to the news. “Jesmond Pace is a Malta tech legend,” says one local developer. “But FACT’s not going anywhere. It’s part of our tech DNA.”
As Pace steps away from the day-to-day operations, he leaves behind a legacy that’s more than just a successful company. It’s a testament to what belief in Malta’s potential can achieve.
“I’ve always said, if you build it, they will come,” Pace says. “And they did. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished, and I’m excited to see what comes next.”
