Gozo Motorcycle Crash: Man Seriously Injured
Motorcyclist Seriously Injured in Gozo Collision
Emergency services rushed to the scene of a serious road accident on Gozo’s Victoria Road yesterday, where a motorcyclist was left critically injured. The incident, which occurred near the popular Ta’ Dbiegi Craft Village, has once again highlighted the need for road safety on Malta’s sister island.
What Happened?
The collision, involving a motorcycle and a car, took place around 4 pm on Tuesday. The motorcyclist, a 35-year-old man from Gozo, was rushed to Gozo General Hospital with serious injuries. His condition is understood to be stable but critical. The driver of the car, a 52-year-old man from Xewkija, was uninjured.
Road Closure and Traffic Disruption
The incident led to the temporary closure of Victoria Road, causing significant traffic disruption during the evening rush hour. Motorists were advised to use alternative routes, with traffic building up around the Xewkija and Għajnsielem areas.
Inspector Keith Micallef of the Gozo Police told Hot Malta, “We urge motorists to exercise caution on Gozo’s roads, especially during peak travel times. We want everyone to reach their destination safely.”
Safety Concerns on Gozo’s Roads
This latest incident has reignited concerns about road safety on Gozo. With an increase in tourism and a growing population, Gozo’s roads are becoming busier, leading to increased traffic congestion and, unfortunately, accidents.
Gozo’s Minister, Justyne Caruana, told Hot Malta, “We are committed to improving road safety on Gozo. We are looking into ways to reduce congestion and improve road infrastructure, but we also need the cooperation of all road users.”
Support for the Injured Motorcyclist
Local residents and the Gozo community have expressed their support for the injured motorcyclist. A spokesperson for the Gozo Regional Committee said, “Our thoughts are with the motorcyclist and his family at this difficult time. We wish him a speedy recovery.”
Hot Malta will continue to follow this story and provide updates as more information becomes available.
