Malta Election: Voting Docs Collection Begins
Malta’s Election Season Kicks Off: Voting Documents Collection Begins
As the sun dipped below the horizon on Monday evening, a flurry of activity began at the Malta Electoral Commission’s (MEC) headquarters in Floriana. Officials were busy preparing for the start of a crucial process that will shape Malta’s political scene for the next five years – the collection of voting documents for the upcoming general election.
When and Where?
From Tuesday, 1st February, eligible voters can start collecting their voting documents from their respective local council offices. The collection process will continue until Friday, 10th March, with the exception of weekends and public holidays. This year, the MEC has introduced an online booking system to streamline the process and avoid long queues. You can book your slot via the MEC’s official website.
For those who prefer the traditional walk-in method, here are the opening hours:
- Monday to Friday: 8:30 AM – 1:30 PM and 2:30 PM – 5:30 PM
- Saturday: 8:30 AM – 12:30 PM
Who Can Collect?
Only the voter themselves can collect their voting document. However, if you’re unable to collect it due to illness or disability, you can authorise someone else to do so. This person must present a valid ID and a letter of authorisation from you.
If you’re registered to vote in Malta but currently reside abroad, you can still collect your voting document. You’ll need to present a valid ID and a letter of authorisation from your local council’s returning officer.
What If You’ve Lost Your ID Card?
Don’t panic. If you’ve lost your ID card, you can still collect your voting document by presenting a valid passport or a Malta Drive Licence. If you don’t have any of these, you can apply for a temporary ID card at your local council office.
Remember, collecting your voting document is a crucial step in exercising your democratic right. So, mark your calendars and make sure you collect your document before the deadline. After all, your vote matters!
As Malta’s political parties gear up for their final push, one thing is clear – the stage is set for an exciting election season. So, let’s make our voices heard and let’s vote!
