Malta’s Election: Voting Documents Collection Begins
Malta’s Election Fever: Voting Documents Collection Begins
Imagine the scene at the Mdina Police Station on Tuesday morning. A steady stream of people, their faces a mix of determination and curiosity, will be filing in. They’re not there to report a crime, but to collect something equally significant – their voting documents for Malta’s upcoming election.
Understanding the Process
Malta’s Electoral Commission has been busy bees, printing and preparing over 270,000 voting documents. These aren’t your average documents; they’re the key to exercising your democratic right. Each packet contains a voter’s ID card, a ballot paper, and an envelope to seal it in.
But why the fuss about collecting them now? Well, Malta’s moving towards a more secure voting system. The old system of voting at your local polling station is evolving. Now, you’ll be voting at a designated polling station based on your ID card number, not your address.
When and Where to Collect
So, when’s the big day? The collection of voting documents starts on Tuesday, 23rd February, and continues until Friday, 26th February. Here’s a quick rundown of the timings:
- Tuesday to Thursday: 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM
- Friday: 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM
You can collect your documents from any of the 42 collection points across Malta and Gozo. These range from police stations to local councils’ offices. For a full list, check out the Electoral Commission’s website.
What Happens on Voting Day?
Now, you’re probably wondering, “What happens on voting day?” Well, mark your calendars for Saturday, 27th February. On this day, you’ll head to your designated polling station, show your ID card, and receive your ballot paper. Remember, it’s a secret ballot, so keep your choices to yourself.
After casting your vote, pop your ballot paper into the ballot box, and that’s it! You’ve done your civic duty. But remember, if you’re voting in person, you’ll need to wear a mask and follow all the COVID-19 safety guidelines.
So, Malta, are you ready to make your voice heard? Let’s get out there, collect our voting documents, and make democracy happen!
