Car Searched, Drugs Seized: Man Arrested at Ħal Far Roadblock

It was just another warm evening in Ħal Far, the sun dipping below the horizon, casting long shadows across the road. But for one man, this ordinary scene was about to take a dramatic turn. As he approached the police roadblock, little did he know that his car would soon become the centre of attention, and not in the way he’d hoped.

In a swift operation, police officers searched his vehicle and discovered a stash of illegal drugs hidden away. The man, a 32-year-old resident of nearby Marsaskala, was promptly arrested and taken into custody. The drugs, a mix of cannabis and ecstasy, were seized and will now form part of the evidence in the ongoing investigation.

Operation Ħal Far: A Blow to Local Drug Trade

This seizure is the latest in a series of successful operations conducted by the police in the Ħal Far area. Inspector Joe Borg, leading the operation, commented, “We’ve been cracking down on drug-related activities in the south. Ħal Far is a strategic location, and we’ve seen an increase in drug trafficking through this area.”

Local residents have welcomed the increased police presence. Maria, a long-time Ħal Far resident, said, “We’ve noticed a difference. It’s reassuring to see the police taking a firm stance against drugs. It makes our community safer.”

Drug Laws in Malta: What You Need to Know

Malta’s drug laws are strict. Possession, supply, and trafficking of illegal substances can lead to hefty fines and imprisonment. The Drugs Act, Chapter 101 of the Laws of Malta, outlines these penalties. For instance, possession of cannabis can lead to a fine of up to €235, while ecstasy possession can result in a fine of up to €4,700 and up to 18 months imprisonment.

Superintendent of Police, Raymond Mifsud, reminded the public, “Drug use and trafficking are serious crimes. We urge anyone with information about such activities to contact us. Together, we can make Malta a safer place.”
