Drugs Seized: Man Arrested After Police Stop on Triq San Gwann
In an early morning operation, police officers patrolling Triq San Gwann, Birkirkara, stopped a vehicle and made a significant seizure. The driver, a 35-year-old man from Msida, was found in possession of illicit drugs, leading to his arrest and subsequent charge.
Morning Patrol Leads to Drug Bust
At around 7:00 AM yesterday, a team of police officers on routine patrol along Triq San Gwann noticed a vehicle driving erratically. They pulled the car over and, during a search, discovered a substantial quantity of suspected cannabis and ecstasy tablets hidden in the driver’s compartment.
The man, who has been identified but not yet named, was immediately arrested and taken into custody. The seized drugs, along with the vehicle, have been impounded pending further investigation.
Community Reacts: “Not in Our Neighbourhood”
News of the arrest has sparked concern among residents of Msida and Birkirkara. Many have taken to social media to express their dismay, with one resident commenting, “We’ve always known drugs are a problem, but to see it happening right here in our neighbourhood is shocking.”
Local councillor, Joseph Xuereb, echoed these sentiments, stating, “We’re working closely with the police to ensure our streets remain safe. Incidents like this remind us that there’s still work to be done.”

Inspector Joe Borg, speaking on behalf of the Malta Police Force, reassured the public that the force is committed to maintaining the safety of Maltese communities. “Our officers are out there every day, working tirelessly to keep drugs off our streets. Incidents like this show that our efforts are paying off,” he said.
Borg also urged the public to report any suspicious activity. “Your information is vital in helping us tackle this issue. Together, we can make our communities safer,” he added.
In the coming days, the man will be appearing in court to answer the charges against him. The police investigation is ongoing.
