Wave of Change Launches ‘Plastic Free Malta’ Campaign at Xrobb l-Għaġin

Ripples of Change: New Campaign to Kick Off at Xrobb l-Għaġin

Imagine standing at the edge of Xrobb l-Għaġin, the sun dipping below the horizon, painting the sky with hues of orange and pink. Now, picture this serene scene disrupted by a wave of change, not of the ocean, but of the community. This Saturday, the Wave of Change initiative is set to make waves of its own, launching a new campaign at this picturesque location.

What is Wave of Change?

Wave of Change is a local NGO that has been riding the tide of environmental conservation since 2018. They’ve made quite a splash, organizing beach clean-ups, promoting sustainable fishing, and even creating an underwater art installation to raise awareness about marine pollution. Now, they’re ready to make another big wave.

New Campaign: ‘Plastic Free Malta’

The new campaign, ‘Plastic Free Malta’, aims to reduce single-use plastic consumption across the islands. With Malta ranked among the worst in Europe for plastic waste, it’s a challenge that can’t be ignored. The campaign will focus on education, advocacy, and community engagement to encourage a shift towards a plastic-free lifestyle.

“We’re not just about picking up litter,” says Daniel Borg, the founder of Wave of Change. “We’re about preventing it from ending up in our seas in the first place. Education is key, and that’s what we’re focusing on with this new campaign.”

What to Expect at the Launch

The launch event at Xrobb l-Għaġin this Saturday promises to be more than just a press conference. There will be interactive workshops, including a DIY workshop to make your own reusable bags and straws. Local businesses will be showcasing their eco-friendly products, and there will be live music and food stalls offering plastic-free refreshments.

But the main attraction will be the unveiling of the campaign’s mascot, a friendly sea turtle named ‘Tina’. Tina will be the face of the campaign, reminding us all of the impact our plastic habits have on marine life.

So, mark your calendars for this Saturday, 23rd April, from 4 pm onwards. Join the wave of change at Xrobb l-Għaġin, and let’s make Malta a cleaner, greener place, one plastic-free step at a time.
