Malta’s AI Revolution: 6,000 Users in 48 Hours

Imagine this: a queue stretching from the iconic St. George’s Square in Valletta, not for the latest iPhone, but for a chance to learn Artificial Intelligence. This was the scene last weekend as Malta’s AI for All programme launched, drawing an rare 6,000 users in just 48 hours.

AI for All: A Local Initiative with Global Ambitions

The AI for All programme, a brainchild of local tech enthusiasts and educators, aims to democratise AI learning. With free workshops and online resources, it targets students, professionals, and anyone curious about AI. The programme’s popularity has taken even its organisers by surprise. “We expected interest, but this response is overwhelming,” said programme coordinator, Dr. Lisa Zammit.

Malta, with its strategic location and tech-savvy population, is set to become an AI hub. The government’s recent AI strategy, ‘Malta.ai’, aims to make Malta the first AI-ready nation by 2030. Initiatives like AI for All align perfectly with this vision.

From Zero to AI Hero: What’s on Offer?

The AI for All programme offers a range of courses, from beginner-friendly ‘AI for Kids’ workshops to advanced deep learning tutorials. Participants can learn at their own pace, with both online and offline resources available. Topics range from AI ethics and applications to hands-on coding sessions.

One of the most popular offerings is the ‘AI in a Day’ workshop, held at the University of Malta’s Msida campus. Here, participants get a crash course in AI, building their own AI models by the end of the day. “It’s about making AI accessible and fun,” said workshop facilitator, Dr. Mario Vella.

But it’s not just about learning. The programme also fosters a community of AI enthusiasts. Meet-ups and hackathons, like the upcoming ‘AI for Social Good’ event at the Malta Innovation Hub, encourage collaboration and innovation.

: Malta’s AI Future

With 6,000 users and counting, the AI for All programme is more than just a success story. It’s a testament to Malta’s potential in the AI sphere. As Dr. Zammit puts it, “AI is not just for the tech elite. It’s for everyone. And Malta is proving that.”

So, what’s next for Malta’s AI scene? More workshops, more collaborations, and maybe even an AI-focused conference. The future looks bright, and it’s AI-tinted.
