Wave of Change Launches ‘Adopt a Bay’ Campaign at Xrobb l-Għaġin

Ripples of Change: Wave of Change Set to Make Waves at Xrobb l-Għaġin

Malta’s environmental scene is about to get a splash of colour and activism this Saturday. The Wave of Change, a local NGO dedicated to cleaning up our seas, is launching a new campaign at Xrobb l-Għaġin, a picturesque coastal region in the south of the island. But what exactly is this campaign about, and why should you care?

From Beach Clean-ups to Blue Habits

The Wave of Change, founded by local environmental enthusiast and scuba diver, Matthew Attard, has been making waves since 2018. Their mission? To inspire a wave of change in our relationship with the sea. They’ve done this through regular beach clean-ups, educational initiatives, and promoting sustainable ‘blue habits’.

Now, they’re ready to make a bigger splash. “We’ve been working behind the scenes to create a campaign that will engage more people and create a tangible impact,” says Attard. “Xrobb l-Għaġin is the perfect spot to launch this. It’s a beautiful area that’s under threat from marine litter.”

Meet ‘Adopt a Bay’

So, what’s this new campaign all about? Meet ‘Adopt a Bay’. The idea is simple yet powerful. Local businesses, schools, and even families can adopt a stretch of coastline, committing to regular clean-ups and monitoring the health of their ‘adopted’ bay.

“We want to create a network of eyes and hands along our coast,” explains Attard. “By adopting a bay, you’re not just cleaning it up, you’re also collecting data that will help us understand the scale of the problem and where our efforts are needed most.”

How You Can Get Involved

But you don’t need to adopt a bay to be part of the change. The launch event at Xrobb l-Għaġin this Saturday is open to all. Here’s what you can expect:

    • A mass beach clean-up starting at 9 AM.
    • Educational talks and workshops on marine conservation and sustainable living.
    • An opportunity to meet local environmental groups and businesses.
    • And, of course, a chance to enjoy the stunning views and crystal-clear waters of Xrobb l-Għaġin.

Attard encourages everyone to come along. “This is about creating a community of change-makers. We all have a part to play in protecting our seas, and together, we can make a real difference.”

So, will you be joining the Wave of Change this Saturday? Let’s make some waves together.
