BCA Acts on Residents’ Complaints About Early Morning Works at Collapse Site

BCA Steps In As Birkirkara Residents Lose Sleep Over Collapse Site Works

It’s 5 am, and the usually quiet streets of Birkirkara are filled with an unusual din. The sound of heavy machinery is echoing through the neighborhood, waking up residents who are none too pleased. The cause? Early morning works at the site of the recent building collapse on Triq il-Kbira.

Residents’ Complaints Mount

For weeks now, residents have been living with the aftermath of the collapse. The once bustling street is now a scene of devastation, with debris still being cleared. But it’s the early morning works that have really got the locals riled up. “It’s like they’re trying to wake up the dead,” grumbles Joe, a long-time resident of the area.

Complaints have been flooding into the Building and Construction Agency (BCA), the body responsible for ensuring safety and standards in the construction industry. Residents have been venting their frustration, with many expressing concern about the impact on their health and wellbeing.

BCA Intervenes

BCA has finally stepped in, acknowledging the residents’ concerns and promising action. “We understand the inconvenience caused to the residents,” says a spokesperson for BCA. “We’re working closely with the contractors to ensure that works are carried out during reasonable hours.”

BCA has issued a notice to the contractors, stipulating that works should not commence before 7 am. They’ve also warned that any breach of this rule will result in immediate action, including the suspension of works.

Contractors Respond

The contractors, however, have a different perspective. “We’re working against the clock here,” says a spokesperson for the construction company. “The sooner we can clear this site, the better it is for everyone. We’re doing our best to minimize disruption, but it’s a complex task.”

They’ve promised to adhere to the new rules set by BCA, but they’ve also urged residents for patience and understanding.

The site is expected to be fully cleared by the end of the month. BCA has assured residents that they will be kept informed about the progress and any changes to the work schedule. In the meantime, residents are advised to contact BCA directly if they have any concerns or complaints.

As for Joe, he’s hopeful that the early morning works are a thing of the past. “I just want to wake up to the sound of birds, not bulldozers,” he says with a laugh.
