Unlocking Healing Waters: Free Hydrotherapy for Malta’s Disability Card Holders

Imagine, for a moment, the relief of feeling your muscles relax, your joints loosen, and your spirits lift as you sink into warm, soothing water. This isn’t just a dream for Malta’s disability card holders; it’s a reality thanks to the government’s recent initiative offering free hydrotherapy sessions.

A Warm Welcome at Tal-Qroqq Sports Complex

Tucked away in Msida, the Tal-Qroqq Sports Complex has become a beacon of hope for many. Here, the warm, inviting waters of the hydrotherapy pool await, ready to provide much-needed relief to those who need it most. The complex, managed by SportMalta, has opened its doors, offering free sessions to holders of the Government’s Disability Card.

“We’re thrilled to be able to provide this service,” says Mark Cutajar, Director of SportMalta. “Hydrotherapy can greatly improve quality of life, and we’re proud to make it accessible to those who need it.”

Hydrotherapy: A Healing Touch

Hydrotherapy, a form of physical therapy performed in water, is known for its numerous benefits. The buoyancy of water reduces the impact on joints, making it an ideal form of exercise for those with mobility issues or chronic pain. The warmth of the water also promotes relaxation and can help to ease muscle tension.

Dr. Maria Mifsud, a local physiotherapist, explains, “Hydrotherapy can help improve range of motion, strengthen muscles, and reduce pain. It’s a gentle, low-impact form of exercise that’s perfect for those with disabilities or chronic conditions.”

Making a Splash: How to Access the Sessions

Accessing the free hydrotherapy sessions is straightforward. Disability Card holders simply need to present their card at the Tal-Qroqq Sports Complex reception. Sessions are available Monday to Friday, from 7 am to 9 pm, and Saturday from 8 am to 1 pm. Each card holder is entitled to two free sessions per week.

For those who may need assistance, the complex offers accessible changing rooms and hoists to aid entry into the pool. Lifeguards are also on duty at all times to ensure safety.

“We want to make sure everyone can benefit from these sessions,” says Cutajar. “We’ve taken steps to ensure the pool and facilities are fully accessible.”

So, if you or someone you know holds a Disability Card, don’t miss out on this opportunity to experience the healing power of water. Dive in, feel the difference, and let the warm waters of Tal-Qroqq work their magic.
