Unlocking Relief: Free Hydrotherapy for Malta’s Disability Card Holders

Imagine the relief of feeling your muscles relax, your joints loosen, and your worries melt away as you float in warm, soothing water. This isn’t just a dream for Malta’s disability card holders; it’s now a reality thanks to a new initiative offering free hydrotherapy sessions.

What is Hydrotherapy and How Does it Help?

Hydrotherapy, or water therapy, is a treatment method that uses water to soothe, stimulate, or heal. It’s particularly beneficial for those with disabilities, chronic pain, or mobility issues. The buoyancy of water reduces the strain on joints and muscles, allowing for easier movement and gentle exercise. It also promotes relaxation, improves circulation, and can help manage pain.

Dr. Joseph Mizzi, a local physiotherapist, explains, “Hydrotherapy is a powerful tool for improving quality of life. It’s not just about physical benefits; it’s also about mental well-being and social interaction.”

Free Sessions at Tal-Qroqq Sports Complex

Thanks to a collaboration between the Malta Disability Forum, the Malta Sports Council, and the Ministry for Inclusion and Social Well-being, free hydrotherapy sessions are now available at the Tal-Qroqq Sports Complex in Msida. The sessions, led by qualified physiotherapists, are designed to cater to individual needs and abilities.

Maria Attard, a disability card holder from Birkirkara, shares her experience, “I’ve been struggling with chronic pain for years. These sessions have made a world of difference. I feel lighter, more flexible, and I’ve even made new friends here.”

Making Waves: The Impact of This Initiative

This initiative is more than just free sessions; it’s a step towards inclusivity and accessibility. It’s about recognizing the unique needs of Malta’s disability community and providing tailored support. It’s about creating a space where people can heal, connect, and thrive.

Dr. Mizzi adds, “This isn’t just about hydrotherapy; it’s about sending a message. It’s about saying, ‘We see you. We understand your needs. And we’re here to support you.’ “

To book a free session, disability card holders can contact the Malta Disability Forum on 21226378 or email info@maltainclusion.gov.mt. Let’s make waves together.
