Malta’s Local Councils Invited to Learn Animal First Aid
First Aid for Furry Friends: Local Councils Invited to Register for Animal First Aid Courses
Imagine this: a dog chokes on a bone while playing in Royal Gardens, Malta’s beloved public park. Panic sets in, but nearby, a council worker springs into action, equipped with the knowledge to save the day. This scenario could soon become a reality, as local councils are invited to register interest in animal first aid courses.
Upskilling Our Councils: A New Initiative
The Malta Council for the Environment (MCE) has launched an initiative to upskill local councils in animal first aid. The course, set to be held later this year, will empower council workers to respond effectively to animal emergencies. This move aligns with the MCE’s mission to promote animal welfare and responsible pet ownership across Malta and Gozo.
“We believe that equipping our local councils with these skills will not only enhance animal welfare but also strengthen the bond between councils and their communities,” said a spokesperson from the MCE. “After all, councils are often the first point of contact in such situations.”
What to Expect: Skills for Life and Work
The animal first aid course will cover a range of topics, from recognizing signs of distress to administering basic first aid. Participants will learn how to handle common pet emergencies, such as choking, bleeding, and heatstroke. The course will also touch on animal behavior, helping council workers understand how to approach and handle animals safely.
“We want our councils to feel confident in dealing with animal emergencies,” the MCE spokesperson added. “This course will provide them with the skills they need to make a real difference in their communities.”
Councils interested in registering for the course can do so by contacting the MCE directly. The course is open to all local councils, regardless of size or location.
