Naxxar’s 5 AM Work Puzzle: Council vs. Collapse Site

Silence at Dawn: Naxxar’s 5 AM Mystery

Imagine waking up to the hum of heavy machinery at 5 AM. Not your alarm clock, but the unmistakable sound of construction work echoing through your neighbourhood. This is what residents of Naxxar have been experiencing, but the local council insists it never gave the green light for such early morning operations.

Tensions Rise at the Collapse Site

At the heart of this controversy lies a partially collapsed building on Triq San Pawl in Naxxar. The structure, once a bustling bakery, has been a safety concern since it partially caved in last year. The owners, eager to salvage what’s left, have been pushing for early morning work to minimise disruption to their business day.

However, the Naxxar Local Council has been firm in its stance, maintaining that it has not approved any works starting before 7 AM. “We understand the urgency of the situation, but we must also consider the wellbeing of our residents,” says Mayor Dorisleanne Galea. “Early morning works are disruptive and we’ve made it clear that they are not permitted.”

Caught in the Middle

The owners of the bakery, on the other hand, argue that the council’s stance is hindering their efforts to restore their business. “We’re caught between a rock and a hard place,” says the owner, who wishes to remain anonymous. “We need to work early to keep our business afloat, but we also don’t want to upset the neighbours.”

The residents, meanwhile, are divided. Some understand the business’s predicament, while others are adamant about their right to a peaceful morning. “I wake up every day to the sound of drilling and digging,” complains one resident. “It’s not fair to us, especially when we’ve been told that these early works aren’t allowed.”

Searching for Solutions

The council has called for a meeting with the owners and affected residents to find a compromise. “We’re not enemies here,” says Mayor Galea. “We all want what’s best for Naxxar. We just need to find a way to balance everyone’s needs.”

The owners, for their part, have agreed to the meeting, expressing hope that a solution can be found. “We want to resolve this as much as anyone else,” they say. “We just need to find a way forward that works for everyone.”

As the sun rises earlier and the dispute continues, one thing is clear: Naxxar’s 5 AM mystery is far from over.
