Malta’s Local Councils: Register Now for Animal First Aid Courses
Local Councils: Ready to Save a Paw? Animal First Aid Courses on the Horizon
Imagine this: a dog, panting heavily, collapses on the bustling streets of Republic Street. Panic ensues, but then, a council worker steps in, calm and confident, providing crucial first aid until help arrives. This could soon be a reality in Malta, as local councils are invited to register interest in animal first aid courses.
Why the Need for Animal First Aid?
Malta’s love for animals is no secret. From stray cats to family pets, our islands are home to thousands of furry friends. Yet, while human first aid is widely known, animal first aid remains a mystery to many. This is where the upcoming courses aim to bridge the gap.
“Animals can’t tell us when they’re hurt or sick,” says Dr. Jennifer Vella, a local vet involved in the initiative. “Learning animal first aid can make a world of difference in emergency situations.”
What Will the Courses Cover?
The courses, organized by the Animal Welfare Department and supported by local vets, will cover a range of topics. From recognizing signs of distress to administering CPR and treating wounds, participants will gain hands-on experience in a safe, controlled environment.
“We’ll also discuss how to handle different animal species, from dogs and cats to more exotic pets,” adds Dr. Vella. “Plus, we’ll provide guidance on what to do until professional help arrives.”
How Councils Can Get Involved
Local councils interested in sending staff for training can register their interest with the Animal Welfare Department. The courses will be held at various locations across Malta and Gozo, ensuring accessibility for all councils.
Council workers won’t just be learning to save paws; they’ll also be helping to create a more animal-friendly Malta. “By having more people trained in animal first aid, we can improve the welfare of animals island-wide,” says Dr. Vella.
So, local councils, are you ready to make a difference, one paw at a time?
