Heroin Bust in Birkirkara: Man Arrested, €13K Worth Seized
In a quiet residential street in Birkirkara, a seemingly ordinary morning took a dramatic turn as police swooped in, arresting a man following the discovery of a stash of heroin with a street value of €13,000.
Under the Radar
Neighbours were left stunned as the bust unfolded on Triq San Pawl, a narrow street lined with traditional Maltese townhouses and the odd modern apartment block. The arrested man, a 35-year-old local resident, had been operating under the radar, his illicit activities hidden behind the facade of everyday life.
Heroin Seized in Significant Quantities
Police seized 130 grams of heroin during the raid, a substantial amount that could have hit the streets of Malta, fueling the local drug trade. The drugs, with an estimated street value of €13,000, were found hidden in the man’s apartment. This seizure is a significant blow to the local drug market, according to Superintendent of Police, Mario Felice.
“This operation sends a clear message to those involved in drug trafficking,” Felice stated. “We are committed to eradicating this scourge from our communities, and we will continue to work tirelessly to achieve this.”
Community Reaction
Residents of Birkirkara have welcomed the police operation, expressing relief that such a significant drug bust has taken place in their community. “We’re glad the police are taking action,” said Maria, a long-time resident of Triq San Pawl. “It’s worrying to think that these things can happen right under our noses.”
Another resident, Joseph, echoed Maria’s sentiments, “It’s a relief to know that the police are on top of this. We want our streets to be safe for our children and families.”
