Heroin Haul: Man Arrested After €13,000 Stash Found in Birkirkara
In a quiet residential street off Triq San Gorg Preca, Birkirkara, police made a significant discovery this week. Hidden away in an unassuming apartment, they found a stash of heroin with a street value of around €13,000. The bust, carried out by the Drugs Unit, has left locals shocked and relieved.
From Tip-Off to Arrest
It all started with a tip-off. Neighbors had noticed suspicious activity and decided to alert the authorities. The police, acting swiftly, obtained a warrant and raided the apartment on Tuesday. There, they found 130 grams of heroin, ready for distribution on the streets of Malta.
The suspect, a 32-year-old man from Birkirkara, was arrested on the spot. He is now being held in custody pending further investigations. Police also seized mobile phones and other items believed to be connected to the drug trafficking operation.
Community Reaction and Police Appeal
News of the bust spread quickly through Birkirkara, with residents expressing relief that such a large quantity of drugs has been taken off the streets. “We’re glad the police acted on our concerns,” said one local resident who wished to remain anonymous. “It’s a quiet area, and we don’t want drugs bringing trouble to our doorsteps.”
Inspector Joseph Muscat of the Drugs Unit appealed to the public to continue reporting suspicious activity. “This operation shows that our community is our eyes and ears on the ground. Together, we can make Malta safer,” he said.
In other news, the police are also investigating whether the suspect is linked to other drug-related activities in Malta.
