Heroin Haul: Man Arrested After €13,000 Stash Found in Ħamrun

In the quiet streets of Ħamrun, a bustling town just a stone’s throw from Malta’s capital, police have made a significant seizure. A man was arrested on Tuesday after officers discovered heroin with an estimated street value of €13,000 hidden in his residence. The discovery was made following a tip-off, highlighting the importance of community involvement in the fight against drug trafficking.

Operation Leads to Arrest and Seizure

The operation, led by the Drug Squad, resulted in the arrest of a 35-year-old man from Ħamrun. Police seized 65 grams of heroin, along with other drug paraphernalia and €2,000 in cash. The heroin, with a purity level of 60%, could have been sold on the streets for around €13,000, according to police estimates.

Superintendent of the Drug Squad, Martin Fenech, praised the operation, stating, “This seizure is a significant blow to the local drug trade. We are committed to disrupting the supply chain and bringing those responsible to justice.”

Ħamrun Residents React

News of the seizure has sparked reactions among Ħamrun residents. Many have expressed relief that the police are actively tackling drug-related issues in their community. “It’s good to know that the police are on top of this,” said Joe, a local shopkeeper. “We want Ħamrun to be a safe place for our families and businesses.”

However, others have raised concerns about the presence of drugs in their neighborhood. “It’s worrying that this was happening so close to home,” said Maria, a mother of two. “We need to ensure our children grow up in a safe environment.”

In response to these concerns, Ħamrun Local Council has pledged to work closely with the police to address drug-related issues. Councilor for Public Safety, John Attard, stated, “We are committed to making Ħamrun a safer place. We will continue to support the police in their efforts and encourage residents to report any suspicious activity.”
