Heroin Seized in Ħamrun: Man Granted Bail

In an early morning raid, police swooped down on a quiet street in Ħamrun, seizing a significant haul of heroin and arresting a man who was later granted bail. The bust, which took place on Tuesday, has through the close-knit community, leaving residents both shocked and relieved.

Heroin Seized in Ħamrun Raid

According to a statement from the Malta Police Force, officers from the Drugs Unit, acting on a tip-off, raided a property on Triq San Ġużepp in Ħamrun. There, they discovered 120 grams of heroin, with an estimated street value of €15,000. The drugs were found in a black sports bag hidden in a wardrobe.

Man Arrested and Later Granted Bail

The raid led to the arrest of a 35-year-old man from Ħamrun. He was subsequently charged with possession of a controlled drug and trafficking. After being brought before magistrate Dr. Donatella Frendo Dimech, the man was granted bail of €5,000 and ordered to surrender his travel documents.

Neighbours, who wished to remain anonymous, expressed their surprise at the discovery. “We’ve always known there’s drug activity in the area, but this is on a whole other level,” said one resident. Another added, “I’m just glad they caught him. It’s a relief to know that less heroin is on our streets.”

Community Reaction and Police Appeal

The Ħamrun Local Council has condemned the incident, stating that they will continue to work closely with the police to keep drugs out of their community. Meanwhile, the Malta Police Force has urged anyone with information about drug activity in their area to come forward.

“We rely on the community to help us tackle this issue,” said a police spokesperson. “If you know something, say something. Your information could make a real difference in our fight against drugs.”
