65 AFM Recruits Graduate in Style at Hal Far Parade

In a display of discipline and pride, 65 recruits marched in unison today at the Armed Forces of Malta’s (AFM) Training School in Hal Far, marking the culmination of their rigorous training with the Passing Out Parade.

From Civilians to Defenders

The journey of these new recruits began months ago, transforming them from civilians into disciplined defenders of Malta’s sovereignty. The parade, a time-honoured tradition, was a testament to their resilience and commitment. It was a poignant moment, not just for the recruits, but also for their families and friends who witnessed their transformation.

Skills Mastered, Bonds Forged

The training, conducted by experienced AFM instructors, covered a wide range of skills. From combat training at the AFM’s shooting range in Bidnija to navigation exercises in the rugged terrain of the island’s interior, the recruits honed their abilities in various challenging environments. The camaraderie forged during these trials was evident in their synchronized march today.

Among the recruits was Private Matthew Azzopardi, a 22-year-old from Birkirkara who chose to serve his country after completing his studies. “The training was tough,” he admitted, “but it’s made me stronger, both physically and mentally. I’m proud to stand here today, ready to serve my country.”

: A Future Force

With the parade marking the end of their initial training, these recruits will now proceed to their respective units. They will continue to develop their skills and contribute to the AFM’s mission to protect Malta’s territorial waters and airspace. As they embark on this new chapter, their families, friends, and the entire Maltese community can take pride in their dedication and service.

Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel David Attard, addressing the parade, emphasized the importance of their role. “You are the future of the AFM. You will face challenges, but remember, you are part of a team, a family. Together, you will overcome them and serve Malta with honour.”
