Blaze Engulfs Abandoned Nightclub in Paceville
PACEVILLE, Malta – A dramatic fire engulfed the derelict former nightclub, ‘The Palace’, on St. George’s Road in the wee hours of Tuesday, sending plumes of smoke into the night sky and startling residents in the heart of Malta’s entertainment district.
Firefighters Battle the Blaze
Emergency services received the call at around 2:30 AM, with the Malta Fire Rescue Service swiftly deploying six vehicles and over 20 firefighters to tackle the inferno. The blaze, fueled by the club’s decaying interior and years of neglect, raged on for hours before it was finally brought under control by dawn.
“We received numerous calls from concerned residents,” said a spokesperson for the Fire Rescue Service. “The building’s state made it challenging to fight the fire, but we managed to prevent it from spreading to adjacent properties.”
Residents and Businesses React
Residents of nearby apartment blocks were evacuated as a precaution, with many taking to social media to share their shock and concern. “I’ve lived here for years, and this is the worst I’ve seen,” said one resident, who wished to remain anonymous. “It’s scary to think what could have happened if the fire had spread.”
Business owners in the vicinity also expressed worry, with some fearing that the fire could have damaged their premises. “We’ve already been struggling due to the pandemic,” said a cafe owner on the same street. “We can’t afford any more setbacks.”
While the cause of the fire is still under investigation, locals suspect it may be linked to squatters who have been known to take refuge in the abandoned building. “We’ve seen people going in and out at night,” said a local shopkeeper. “It’s only a matter of time before something like this happens.”
