Gozo Youth Get Career Boost with New Work Trial Scheme
Gozo’s Youth Get a Boost with New Work Trial Scheme
Imagine being a young Gozitan eager to kickstart your career, but finding the job market as daunting as the Azure Window once was. That’s where the new work trial scheme comes in, offering a lifeline to our island’s youth.
What’s the Deal with the Work Trial Scheme?
The scheme, launched by the Ministry for Gozo and the Malta Employers’ Association, is designed to give young Gozitans a chance to prove their mettle in the workplace. It’s a win-win: businesses get to try out potential employees, and participants get a taste of the real world, with a wage to boot.
Here’s the nitty-gritty: the scheme is open to Gozitans aged 16 to 35 who are currently unemployed. It offers a six-month trial period, during which participants will receive a monthly stipend of €500. The best part? If both parties are happy, the trial could lead to a permanent job.
Local Businesses Step Up
Several local businesses have already signed up, with a diverse range of sectors represented. From tourism giants like the Kempinski Hotel San Lawrenz to tech startups like Gozo Digital, these employers are showing that they’re serious about investing in our youth.
Take Anthony Debono, owner of the popular Victoria-based café, The Little Bean. He believes the scheme is a “breath of fresh air,” saying, “It gives our young people a real chance, and us employers a chance to see what they’re made of.”
How to Apply and What’s Next
Interested? You can apply online via the Ministry for Gozo’s website. The scheme is set to run until December 2023, with applications closing on the 31st of March. So, don’t miss out on this opportunity to turn the tide on your career.
As for the future, Minister for Gozo, Clint Camilleri, is optimistic. “We’re hoping this scheme will not only help our young people find employment but also encourage more businesses to invest in Gozo,” he said.
